Coalescence Coffee Co.

It's not frequent I get to Norfolk, but every time I do pass through, I manage to find a new coffee operation to visit. My most recent visit, I was able to visit a shop doing wonderful things with Michigan's Madcap Coffee Coffee, a place called Coalescence.

Located in a giant warehouse with plenty of windows (even a front garage door), Coalescence is a paragon of minimalist coffeehouse decor. The color scheme was calming, the ceilings high and the overall aesthetic had a wide-open feeling that made it tough to notice the other patrons.

After conversing with the baristas at the central bar, I went with an espresso of Third Coast and a drip of a single origin Colombia. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, whipped cream, sweet corn, hazelnut, cherry and root beer, proving syrupy and balanced. The drip coffee also set off fireworks, with bright notes of caramel apple, mango, fresh bread, whole milk and cascara.

After polishing off my drinks, I could not stay long but had to return to the road. If you happen to be in the area or passing through, definitely stop by Coalescence for great coffee in a gorgeous space.
