Coffee shops and tall buildings are meant to exist in a natural symbiosis, one where tenants have easy access to great coffee, yet sadly so many skyscrapers exist without a great cafe within stones throw. But each city has its pockets of joy, such as Wilmington's I.M. Coffee in the lobby of the I.M. Pei Building. 

Endowed with shared access to a beautiful courtyard and spacious lobby, I.M. Coffee occupies a sizable portion of the first floor with a spacious bar and plenty of food options. The majority of the traffic would likely come from the work week but I was able to make it out one Saturday morning on my way south.

As for coffee, they offer Open Seas Coffee Roasters out of Stevensville, MD. The morning of my visit, I ordered an espresso of Davy Jone's Locker and a drip of Captain's Choice. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, sea salt, raspberry, blood orange, croissant and lemon seltzer, proving bright and sweet. The drip similarly made for an excellent infusion, with notes of sweet wheat, honey, rye, plum, mozzarella, pear and romaine in a medium body. 

While I wasn't able to dawdle with my drinks, I greatly enjoyed my stop and look forward to revisiting. If you live/work nearby or you're passing by, definitely check out I.M. Coffee.
