It is always fun visiting friends, especially when they live in an area that always seems to have a new coffee shop. On my most recent foray to the Williamsburg area, I was fortunate to meet up with a good chum at a cafe new to me: Grounded Coffee in Newport News. 

Busy Nothings Coffee Co. (formerly Canvas Coffee House)

UPDATE 3/30/2026:
Since 2022 this location has become Busy Nothings Coffee Company. When I last visited, they were slinging Canvas Coffee but it appears they now roast their own coffee. Still a good quality stop as of my last visit.

For many years I visited the Williamsburg area and never had much luck finding good coffee outside of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. But finally after years of dearth, a quality establishment called Canvas Coffee House opened its doors in Newport News.
