Pittsburgh in summer remains a favorite destination, especially if I have business/destinations to visit in the city that give the necessary motivation to seek out good coffee.
On my most recent visit, I found myself in the Strip District right near a De Fer Coffee location and made my way inside. The interior was voluminous, with high ceilings and even a second floor of seating. The shop has gorgeous artwork, a large bar and plenty of customers.
As for the coffee that day, I ordered an espresso of the Sons of Vulcan and a drip coffee of their Porch Weather. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of dark cocoa, cherry soda, buttered pretzel, fig cookie and cashew with a twinge of black pepper, proving full and sweet. The drip proved more airy and fluffy, with notes of nectarine, passion fruit, milk chocolate, red currant, oat milk and cola.
After spending some time consuming my beverages, I had to be on my way. If you happen to be in the Pittsburgh area, check out De Fer for great coffee.
