The two towns of Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA are inexorably tied and yet have two very different dynamics. New Hope is far more the tourist-centered borough, with its cute main street and attractions, but a few visits expose its congested footprint and surprising lack of public (or private) bathrooms. Whereas Lambertville first appears far more of a sleepy village, but repeat exposure shows this is the town with far more quality, hidden gems.

One such gem is the coffeehouse dubbed Union Coffee. Situated in a fairly voluminous shop on a nondescript street, Union was a bustling hot spot for people on the warm day of my visit. The open windows, various seating and curio shop by its bathroom made for a pleasant place to spend some time.
As for coffee, they slung Partners and Folk! on the day of my visit, specifically Partner's Bedford on both espresso and drip (so that's what I went with). The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, cherry, lemon bar, sourdough and bib lettuce, proving bright and toothsome. The drip infusion made for a smoother, sultry cup, with notes of pound cake, cherry preserves, watermelon, nougat, apple juice and hibiscus.
After polishing off my drinks, I had to bid adieu to the cafe, but I definitely found another reason to like Lambertville. If you happen to be in the area, make sure to give Union Coffee a visit.
