Fellow Mountain Cafe

Subject: Fellow Mountain Cafe
Location: Hunter, NY
Rating: 6+ [see key]

Having traveled much of New York state, I am always astounded how much more of it I still have not seen. One section I had yet to peruse was the area around Jewett. Next store to it is a quaint towns called Hunter and that town had what I had hoped; a really good coffee shop.

Fellow Mountain Cafe exists in a giant two story structure that was bathed in cream and earth tones. The porch was full and the inside extremely spacious, with huge wood tables all around soaking up the numerous patrons that seemed to just stream through the doors.

As for coffee, they use Peaks out of Syracuse. For both my espresso and drip, they used Peaks Mountain Climber. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of sweet cream, apple pie, chocolate, rhubarb and graham cracker, proving supple and delicious. The drip infusion also yodeled with delight, offering notes of apple juice, rye, vanilla cake, fig, barley and sweet nougat.

Alas that such a lovely place exists so far from home. If you happen to be anywhere near Hunter, definitely make a stop at Fellows.
