While one does not easily access NYC from outside the city, once you're in Manhattan, there are few places like it. The odd infrastructure boasts lots of quizzical streets and offbeat nooks that offer lots of gems to those that seek them out. On one such recent visit to Chinatown, I managed to find such a gem at a cafe and roastery dubbed Artbean Cafe.

Situated on the narrow but beautiful Doyers Street, Artbean offers their beans in a cozy, well-lit shop with an large, open front window on nicer days. The majority of the seating is outside, extending their footprint onto the eclectic avenue.

For my coffee that day I went with their Creativity blend for espresso and a single origin Costa Rica for my drip. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown cream, smacked of chocolate, rye bread, cream, pretzel and apple, proving full and delectable. The drip coffee fared more delicate, with sweet flavors of pear, corn, black tea, plum and buttermilk biscuit in a medium body.

While I only spent a small bit of time at Artbean, the time was well spent. If you're ever in Chinatown or in lower Manhattan, check out Artbean for good coffee.

How is it one of the harder area of Manhattan to access? It’s served by many major train lines, and since the city is narrower here, you can take pretty much anything and get to your destination quickly. Also while Lower Manhattan is technically correct, but this is Chinatown, so why not refer to it as such.

Peter, the observation was more from an external perspective, getting into NYC from outside the city. Definitely not comparing and contrasting transportation ease between the different sections of the boroughs.
