Sometimes it's nice not being invited. My aunt recently treated my daughters to a show in Philadelphia and (mostly for price purposes) did not extend the offer to take me, her grown nephew (the audacity). While some folks would have taken issue with this snub, I was actually delighted to have reason to finally make a proper visit to Vibrant Coffee Roasters.
Located right on the doorstep of Rittenhouse Square, Vibrant Coffee Roasters has been in my home coffee rotation for years. They exist in a brownstone edifice, which were it not for the trademark sign and colorful chairs, the cafe would be tough to find. Inside, the shop is cozy and vivacious in decor, with a central bar surrounded by mostly moving space for patrons to order.
As for coffee that day, I went with an espresso of their Old School blend and a drip of Good Vibes. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, peach, cream, sweet bread, walnut and mellow red cabbage, proving sweet and sprightly. The drip brew also made for a delicious cup, with lively notes of strawberry, vanilla, nougat, almond cake, green apple and butter lettuce.
Oddly enough, my paths have led me back a number of times to their doors since this visit, and I can attest each has been as good as the last. If you happen to be in Philly, give Vibrant Coffee Roasters a go.
