Navigating Seattle on a recent visit, I had a great hankering for a curd-filled donut with a good cup of coffee. While such places exist, it's hard to find quality donuts with great coffee. Fortunately Seattle has a few to choose from, with one of the most colorful being a local favorite called General Porpoise.
After mistakenly trying to visit their Amazon HQ location (closed to the public except with a reservation twice a month), I found myself in Pioneer Square at the beautiful blue doors leading to their spacious cafe. The shop has was voluminous, with an elegant minimalism and plenty of seating.
As for coffee, they offer a variety of roasters. I settled upon an espresso of a single original Colombia from Night Swim and a drip coffee of Stamp Act's Milk Money blend. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of strawberry, passion fruit, chocolate, cherry and lime, proving bright and sweet. The drip coffee also made for a delicious cup, with decadent notes of caramel, milk, vanilla, nougat, apple juice and wheat.
After enjoying a few different excellent donuts, I had to bid adieu to this wonderful shop and its great menu. If you happen to be in Seattle, definitely stop by General Porpoise.
