Combining a coffee shop with another business (or visa versa) has always been a great idea, but what happens from inception to conception can make or break the notion.

On my most recent trip to Phoenix, I found a great example of a business symbiosis with For the People modern design store and Kream Coffee. The combined space is located on a bustling N Central Ave in Uptown within a beautiful white building with large front windows. Inside the coffee bar sits in the front corner of the store amidst the beautiful aesthetic of minimalist design and gorgeous product displays.

The coffee comes from various roasters. The day of my visit, I had an espresso a single origin Ethiopian from Sweet Bloom and a drip coffee of an Ethiopian from Blue Beard. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of cherry, cream, caramel, a little hibiscus tea, lemon candy and buttered cracker, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee proved good, with hearty notes of strawberry, shortbread, rhubarb, toffee, whole milk, churro and collard greens.

After enjoying my drinks amidst the many gorgeous products I wished to buy (but could not because I did not have much room in my luggage), I had to continue onward to business. If you live in or travel to Phoenix, definitely check out Kream and For the People for a great caffeinated respite.
