Coffee shops have often been accused of looking fairly cookie cutter, with white walls and minimalist design, so when less conventional gems turn up, they shine all the brighter. One of my most recent favorites was the cozy, newest location of Golf Park Coffee Co. in Lynchburg.

Coffee shops have often been accused of looking fairly cookie cutter, with white walls and minimalist design, so when less conventional gems turn up, they shine all the brighter. One of my most recent favorites was the cozy, newest location of Golf Park Coffee Co. in Lynchburg.
Situated in a greenhouse-like section of Farm Basket, a well-known local bistro and general store, Golf Park Coffee Co. has a charming-yet-spartan interior that shares in a cornucopia of outdoor seating ranging from stream-side picnic tables to covered patio seating.
As for coffee, they serve up Blanchard's Coffee out of Richmond. On the morning of my visit, I ordered up an espresso of Bear Trap and a single origin of unknown origin (because I failed to note it that AM). The espresso, pulled short/medium, smacked of chocolate, lemon, peach, croissant, black tea and a little coriander, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also proved delightful, with smooth notes of honey, apple juice, root beer, vanilla cake, fig and a touch of nutmeg.
While I would have been content to hang out all day, I had a full schedule so I could only stay for a short time before hitting the road again. Thus, if you're in town or nearby, check out one of the locations of Golf Park Coffee Co. for some solid beverages.
