When visiting far off cities, barista recommendations are usually a solid source of wisdom. I usually have a short list of places to try, but getting verification or a even a surprise qualified suggestion is usually the beacon that helps further light my path unto great coffee, with only occasional mishaps.

In a recent trip to Phoenix, I had a great shop picked out to hit first and after sampling their wares, I asked their opinion on other establishments and they mentioned Mythical Coffee. The next day I set off to their Gilbert location to give them a go and found them situated in a strip of beautiful shops, the exterior a wall of clean glass flanked by outside seating. Inside, the shop had a voluminous atmosphere with the bar off to the back right and a variety of well-spaced furniture.

The coffee ordered that morning was an espresso of a single origin Honduras and a drip coffee of an Ethiopian and Colombian blend. The espresso, pulled short with light brown crema, smacked of strawberry, romaine, lemon, nougat and a little jasmine, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also made for an excellent brew, with vibrant notes of pineapple, caramel, sweet corn, rose and Fuji apple.

After enjoying my coffee amidst good friends, I had to bid adieu to this glorious coffee oasis. If you happen to be in the area, stop by one of Mythical Coffee's locations for some excellent brews.
