I have been to Tennessee a dozen times in my younger days, but in that count, for some reason I never stopped in Knoxville. This mostly resulted from a ridiculous time table and compatriots that did not enjoy multiple stops, but fortunately those days sit largely in the past. Thus on my most recent trek from east to west through the Volunteer State, I made a point to hit Knoxville.

Pulling into town one afternoon, I first made time for coffee at a coffee shop of repute called K Brew. With four locations, I was closest to the Ebenezer Rd location, and soon I found myself outside a giant brick shop. Inside the cafe has a giant counter, plenty of seating and even chairs hanging from the metal bars.

As for coffee, I went with an espresso of their Signature Espresso and a drip of a single origin Sumatra. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon zest, cream, brown sugar, apple and melon, proving sweet and sultry. The filtered coffee also made for a delicious infusion, with smooth notes of red apple, fig, bran, hibiscus tea, milk and oats.

After relaxing for a spell, I spent some time around town enjoying the local sites and ameneties (I found the UT Gardens specifically delightful). If you happen to be in the area, definitely head to a K Brew location for great coffee.
