Cocoa Cinnamon / Little Waves Coffee Roasters

Subject: Cocoa Cinnamon / Little Waves Coffee Roastery
Location visited: Chapel Hill Rd (Lakewood), Durham, NC
WiFi?: yes
Rating: 6+ [see key]

The worst time to get to a coffee shop is the last 15 minutes. The baristas are starting the closing process, most baked goods are gone and the general atmosphere can be sometimes hostile. But one near-closing experience proved to be the perfect stop for a long day in Durham.

After getting to the area late, I made final stop at the Chapel Hill Rd location of Cocoa Cinnamon and Little Waves Coffee Roasters before heading to my hotel. The roastery sits in a one-story brick building with a cozy front patio and a large interior full of chairs. The shop was in the throes of closing, but the baristas were super chill and treated me like their only customer.

After ordering some churros to inhale later in the car (which I did), I chose an espresso of their Amor Prohibido to enjoy there. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, caramel cheesecake, cola and pound cake, proving sultry and sweet.

While drip options were done for the day of my visit, I've had various Little Waves coffees in my own house many times with consistent accolades. So I can say with great confidence that if you happen to be in the area of Durham, definitely look up a Cocoa Cinnamon / Little Waves operation for excellent coffee and superb churros.
