Ever go to a city and realize you missed a great coffee shop when you were there? For me, invariably after I return from some expeditions, there is occasionally an establishment I managed to miss or overlook. About 8-9 years ago, that was Jubala Coffee in Raleigh. My free time was limited, I poorly budgeted my time and that led to me missing a stop at the then-new Jubala.
Now nearly a decade later, Jubala has grown into a multi-location shop with a solid reputation. As I was heading north, I picked their location on Honeycutt Rd in a chic shopping plaza to visit. Walking inside, the shop is spacious, with a giant bar and plenty of seating both inside and out.
As for coffee, they were serving up various coffees from B&W. I went with an espresso of their Jubala blend and a drip of a single origin Colombian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, nougat, ginger, almond, sweet tea and sesame cracker, proving sweet and bright. The drip also made for a delicious infusion, with vibrant notes of tangerine, sugar cookie, molasses and romaine.
Once I finished up my drinks, unfortunately I could not hang about, but I was glad to have finally made time for Jubala. If you happen to be in the area, definitely make a stop at one of their locations for some excellent coffee.
