Lancaster is slowly turning into one of my favorite areas in Pennsylvania. The city and the surrounding Amish countryside offer such a beautiful mix of the bucolic and the tantalizing that even though I get out there quite frequently, I have yet to grow tired of the region.
One of my more recent delightful experiences came from a visit to Prince Street Cafe. Long on my list of shops to visit, time or other hurdles kept me from dropping by, but one beautiful Saturday, I finally made it out with my son to grab some coffee as we traveled through the city. The cafe has a beautiful polish, both inside and out, that combines great design with a warm, easy-going vibe.
As for coffee, they serve up Necessary Coffee, a sister roasting company to Passenger. For both my espresso and drip coffee, I had their Blend. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, vanilla, cream, some smokiness and a touch of basil, making for a stout infusion that was very tasty. The drip brought out some smoother, subtler notes, with flavors of strawberry, croissant, sweet bread, cashew, whole milk, bib lettuce and a little nutmeg.
All together, while I was unable to hang around long, my full experience was stellar and I look forward to my return trip. The next time you happen to be in the city of Lancaster, definitely swing by Prince Street Cafe.
