The Shop

Subject: The Shop
Location: Binghamton, NY
WiFi?: yes
Rating: 5+ [see key]

Back when I lived in Syracuse, I used to go back and forth from Philly all the time, passing quite often through the city of Binghamton, New York. Circa 2008, the area held few places to stop for good coffee, so rarely did I visit the city of Binghamton during my travels.

That changed on a recent trip north. I had gotten a later start than intended thanks to a bum battery and I found myself in Binghamton right after lunch, craving some coffee. Fortunately, a new place lit up on my radar, a bar and kitchen with potential called The Shop.

Located in downtown Binghamton in an older building, The Shop boasts a spacious restaurant with a quality coffee program. Using Intelligentsia for their beans, they offer a espresso off their 2 group Faema as well as drip coffee. For my libations that afternoon, I had a doubleshot of Black Cat and a filtered brew of Frequency. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, sea salt, cream, orange peel and a little black tea, proving tasty and balanced. The drip coffee also delivered a solid infusion, with thick notes of wheat, cola, strawberry, caramel, a little pepper, molasses and some ginger in a medium body.

While I only had time for coffee, I definitely will stop back for a meal along with my coffee next time I'm passing through the land. Whether you're a local or someone visiting, definitely check out The Shop the next time you're in Binghamton.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
