Riding a street car down N Rampart Street stands as one of my favorite memories of New Orleans. The car was relatively empty and the day was not yet a few hours old, but the car was a nice relief from the already stifling air of the city and the route had few passengers. Sadly the ride was not long, and the destination was the French Quarter, as my wife and I had a nice morning of sight-seeing and walking the old streets planned out. It was then as we made our way down N Rampart St that we first passed Arrow Cafe.
I do not recall if I took notice of it that first time, but I definitely recall finding recommendations to check out Arrow shortly after our ride that morning. A day later, we found ourselves on the doorstep ready to grab some coffee and check it out. The interior of the cafe was eclectic and utilitarian, full of local merchandise, curious decor and a decent amount of seating.
As for coffee that day, they had Extracto, Congregation and Hey available. After some deliberation I went with the Eleven of Spades blend from Extracto for my espresso, and the Highwalk blend from Congregation. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, vanilla, a little chianti and a touch of rye, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also produced a delicious brew, with creamy, rich notes of honey, oats, thick milk, pear, butternut squash, pound cake and a little fig.
While we only stuck around for a half hour, the time spent in Arrow was time well spent. Whether you live in town or you're there to visit, definitely give Arrow Cafe some patronage.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
