The city of Burlington sits a few River Line train stops below Trenton and arguably holds some of the finest architectural charm in the area. It's a town that has a beautiful view of the Delaware River, and even though Burlington has had a share of tough goings through the years with a declining business district, there are signs that the area could be on an uptick.
One such singing canary is Evermore Coffee Roasters. Located in a blue building on East Union Street, just a few blocks from the riverfront, they are the first serious coffee shop to open in the region in over a decade. Fortunately, I was able to make a small detour a few weeks ago shortly after the last snow of winter for a long-awaited visit. I located parking easily in the nearby city parking lot and I quickly skipped over to the shop. Inside, I found the shop intimate, with rich woods and plenty of table seating to suit coffee-slurping patrons.
Regarding coffee, I had a good conversation with the barista and settled upon an espresso of their Livewire blend and an American Press (similar to a French Press) of a Honduras. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, berries, lemongrass, a little cream, nougat, kale and a little clove, proving rich and sweet. The Honduran infusion also made for a pleasant cup, with notes of caramel, nougat, peach, pear, fresh corn and a little romaine in a medium body.
All around, I was quite pleased with the Evermore experience. If you happen to be nearby, definitely make a stop to try out their coffee and check out the local sites.
