American Bulldog Coffee Roasters

Long ago, I found the lovely NJ town of Ridgewood and it seems to only have grown in beauty since. Outfitted with a pleasant downtown, a slightly bucolic train station and good local coffee, I have visited the area more often in these past years than some towns 20 miles from my house. To put it simply, if I had to move to north, Ridgewood would be on my shortlist.

One particular spot that has offered a great caffeinated oasis during these visits has been American Bulldog Coffee Roasters. Located in a large brick edifice with huge front windows, American Bulldog has a beautiful interior with vintage lamps, a quaint hearth and plenty of seating throughout.

As for coffee, they have been roasting for some time, as they once had a cafe in Manhattan known as Bowery Coffee. My order that day consisted of an espresso of their Bowery Blend and a pourover of a Mexican single origin. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, tasted of chocolate, apple, seaweed, biscuit, whipped cream, cherry and a little salt, proving balanced and toothsome. The pourover also delivered a syrupy roller coaster of flavors, complete with honey, asian pear, walnut, birch beer, raisins and a little nutmeg in a medium body.

After sitting for awhile to enjoy my beverages, I had to depart for a few errands and to meet up with some old relations. If you happen to be near Ridgewood or their NY location in Chestnut Ridge, a great cup of coffee awaits at American Bulldog.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
