While Philadelphia has many great shops within the city limits, many of my favorites reside in the suburbs. One particular shop sits in a town I rarely get an opportunity to visit, a pleasant village called Gladwyne.
My eye was focused on a shop called Homeroom, a quaint cafe located in a single-story cottage with a parking lot. After ejecting from my car, I wandered through their terrific patio into the cozy space filled efficiently with seating and various delights.
As for coffee, they served locally-roasted Ox. That morning, I ordered an espresso of Ox 1 and a drip of the Homeroom blend. The espresso, pulled medium with light brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon spritzer, croissant, nougat and cherry jam, proving sweet and substantial. The drip coffee also rocked, with notes of grapefruit, vanilla cake, powdered sugar, birch beer and brown-buttered shortbread.
After spending sometime sipping and chatting, I had to move on but was all the better for my visit. If you seek good coffee near Gladwyne, check out Homeroom.
