I love driving around the area surrounding Lancaster. The city itself has its charm, but the countryside that is home to corn mazes, Bible story theater and chicken-filled smorgasbords holds a fabled loveliness that few regions can rival.
One particular location I discovered some years past is a local market called Singing Spring Foods in Quarryville. Firstly, it's an excellent grocery store, but located inside stands a beautiful coffeehouse slinging not only coffee, but an impressive menu consisting of ice cream and other local food items like stuffed fresh pretzels. The outdoor area offers multiple playgrounds for kids, while the interior is a vaulted space with plenty of seating.
As for coffee, the shop used Square One Coffee the day of my visit, utilizing the Thaddeus blend for espresso and a single origin Colombian for the drip. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, almond extract, pound cake and rose tea, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also made for a delectable brew, with notes of vanilla cookie, caramel, sweet corn, fresh fig, apple and a little cashew.
After enjoying my beverages and a little time exploring the market, I had to continue on as the day held plenty more adventures. If you happen to be near Quarryville and looking for a tremendous local supermarket and coffeehouse, checkout Singing Spring and Crossroads Cafe.
