The Poconos region has mixed memories for me. On the one hand, its natural beauty often suffers due to poor infrastructure design and inexplicable hoards of tourists. On the other hand, the area has lots of local gems that, if sought out, can be found on roadsides and random back roads aplenty.

After one nights sleep in a nearby Wolf Lodge, I roamed off-site to find good coffee in a local shop called Jiva Java Cafe. While the outside doesn't hold much beyond the vanilla edifice, the doors lead into a cozy interior with two well-decorated seating areas with a central coffee bar.
As for coffee, that day they were serving nearby Santa Mama, with the Cosmic Dancer blend for espresso and a single origin Honduras on drip. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of lemon, chocolate, black tea, vanilla and corn, proving sweet and pleasant. The drip also made for a treat, with sweet notes of chocolate, walnut, oatmeal cookie, buttered toast and honey.
Pleasantly satisfied with my coffee experience, I headed back to my lodge to check out and journey further south. If you happen to be in the area, stop by Jiva Java for good cup of coffee in the Poconos.
