Some days I get to be the valet for a family member. Whether it's to usher someone to a sporting event or to drop a gaggle of relatives at the ballet, I get picked because "I like Philly." Sadly, they are right. I will often take the burden of driving and parking if it means I get some time to wander around and visit coffee shops.
One shop I've visited a few times now is Alchemy Coffee, now with two locations a mere handful of blocks apart from one another. I usually find myself at the 21st Street location, inside the white, sleek cafe with an emphasis on contrast and little pops of color.
As for coffee, they were slinging Elixr's Beekeeper on espresso and had a drip of their exclusive Sankofa Gold blend. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, raspberry, ricotta cake, chocolate, hibiscus and orange zest, proving bright and sweet. The drip coffee also made for a great infusion, with notes of apple, Italian bread, nougat, raising, whole milk and a little pecan.
After enjoying my beverages and resting for a bit, the ballet was soon over and I had to wander back to my car to make my rounds. If you happen to be in Philly around 21st and Market, try either of Alchemy's locations for great coffee.
