Boonton Coffee

There are lots of towns in New Jersey and New York I don't get to a whole lot purely because my trajectory rarely leads me northeast these days. But sometimes, the busy thoroughfares of northeast NJ must be traversed, and on my most recent such romp I found myself in a charming town at the threshold of Boonton Coffee.

Located on the main street of town, the shop is a giant cafe with a sprawling footprint positioned on a cliff. The interior is beautiful, with a polished warehouse look that was full of nuance and spectacular decor.

As for coffee, they roast their own beans and the options that day were an espresso of their Honduras and a drip of their Colombian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of dark chocolate, cream, blueberry, rye toast and passion fruit, proving bright and full. The drip also sampled well, with heavy-yet-sweet notes of red apple, nutmeg, fig, almond, toffee and a little strawberry.

While both of my drinks proved a little darker than I would have desired (both were medium roasts I believe), next time I stop back I shall definitely hope to try one of their light roasts. If you happen to be near Boonton or in need of a respite in northern NJ, head over to Boonton Coffee.
