Most people quickly associate a storied history of distilling spirits with Kentucky. So it was no surprise to find one of the more happening places in Lexington was around the Distillery District, located on the grounds of the old James E. Pepper Distillery. After exploring the district my first night in town, the next morning I made my way down the street to try out some local brews at Manchester Coffee Co.
Located in a one-story brick building with vaulted ceilings and plenty of room for activities, Manchester offers not only a delightful, monochromatic aesthetic but also well-roasted coffee. Accompanied by my family that morning, we found the seating plentiful and the baristas were immensely friendly.
As for my coffee that day, I went for an espresso of their Charge blend and a drip of a single origin Mexican. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, ginger, molasses and a little arugula, proving bright and sweet. The filtered coffee also made for a delicious brew, with sumptuous notes of honey, fuji apple, corn flakes, pomegranate, tangerine and champagne in a light/medium body.
After savoring the morning coffee break, the family and I left Manchester quite pleased. If you happen to be in Lexington, definitely stop by one of Manchester Coffee Co.'s locations for great coffee.
