It is not often that I get to Iowa. While it has been on my revisit list for some years, it evaded me until a recent road trip driving east from Montana. Wanting to avoid certain areas of congestion, I took many a back road and detour, and found myself in the lovely city of Davenport. Located on the Illinois border, the city offered a perfect place to stop for a brief coffee break.
Heading over to a well-reputed establishment called 392Caffe, I found their shop easily on the corner of 3rd and Scott, with convenient street parking nearby. Inside, the shop is beautifully arrayed, with majestic decor and tons of seating options.
As for coffee, they utilize Brandywine Coffee Roasters out of Wilmington, Delaware. The day of my visit, I ordered an espresso of a single origin Burundi and a drip of their White Diamonds blend. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of mango, chocolate, caramel, strawberry candy, apple and sugar, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also made for fireworks, with notes of peach, dulce de leche, red grapes, milk chocolate and focaccia bread.
