A lot of people call things hidden gems (even me) but very few times are said gems truly hidden from plain view. But such is exactly the case with a coffee shop in Scranton called Adezzo, that despite being a block from the courthouse area where I have been dozens of times, the building it resides within was all together unknown to me until recently.
Located on the ground floor of a residential structure with a charming courtyard for outside dining, Adezzo boasts a beautiful interior full of bright light, plenty of seating and dapper decor. After finding some parking a block or two away, I waltzed down some back streets and found a building entrance inviting yet completely invisible from the main streets.
As far as coffee, they offered local coffee roaster Electric City Roasting. After some brief deliberation, I went with an espresso of their Autobahn blend and a drip coffee of Awakening. The espresso, pulled to a medium volume with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, cream ,lemon, ginger, basil, vanilla and some pretzel, proving balanced and sweet. The drip made for a mellow yet potent cup, with notes of black cherry, malt, bran, cream tea and some saucy tomato.
Not many businesses do well as secrets, but it seems Adezzo's out-of-the-bustle location has the allure and goods to make their cafe work. If you're looking for a unique coffee shop with a nifty courtyard, check out Adezzo in Scranton.
