One day I will make it to Coeur d'Alene in the summertime, but for now I will glory in its winter. Even amidst a dreary winter day, the city remains resplendent, with its majestic vistas and mostly walkable town. On one such afternoon, I found myself downtown and in need of some coffee, so I made my way to a shop called Vault Coffee.

Located in the bones of an old bank at the corner of Sherman and 4th St, Vault possesses a classy elegance coupled with an approachable brand. Blessed with a beautiful open interior, the shop felt huge with its vaulted ceilings (pun intended), copious seating and spiffy furniture.

As for coffee, they serve up beans from local roaster Doma Coffee. For my brews that visit, I had an espresso of Vito's blend, and for drip, a blend called Carmela. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon candy, strawberry, corn, a little mozzarella, orange and hibiscus tea, proving bright and balanced. The drip coffee made for a staunch cup, with notes of apple, Italian bread, honeydew, malt, tobacco and cloves in a medium/heavy body.

While I would have loved more time to dawdle, I had a busy day ahead of me, but was better for the visit. If you happen to be in the area or passing through, most certainly give Vault Coffee a visit.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
