Peaks Coffee Company

I worked at Syracuse University for three tremendous years from 2007-2010, living right on-campus in Watson and Haven Halls, respectively. While it was a beautiful place to live, (except during the gloomy weeks) there was no quality coffee within walking distance. Naturally, after my departure the coffee scene grew and bloomed, and as of the past few years, the geography around the university has become a far better place to find good coffee.

One of my favorites shops of late is a cafe called Peaks Coffee Company. Originally founded in beautiful Cazenovia, they moved their retail presence into the ground floor of the 505 on Walnut off-campus apartments a few years back and the area has been blessed by their coffee ever since. Resplendent with outside seating, giant windows and a cozy interior, the shop sits beautifully on E Genesee St north of the university's main campus, but a few blocks from my prior residences.

Recently I made a visit to their shop early one Saturday, groggy and ready for replenishment. Ordering up my usual combo, I went with an espresso of their Mountain Climber and a drip of a single origin Nicaragua. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of clementine, vanilla, caramel, granny apple, rhubarb and a bit of sugar cookie, proving sweet and sultry. The filtered coffee also proved vivacious and toothsome, with notes of grape, caramel apple, honey pie, fig and a little romaine.

While I don't visit Syracuse too often these days, when I do I will definitely be stopping by this great shop again. Whether you go to school down the street, live nearby or are passing through, definitely make some time to stop by Peaks for some great coffee.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
