Montago Coffee

State capitals and their administrative complexes usually aren't much to look at, but sometimes excellent gems sit next to their concrete walls.

On a recent trip to Helena, I had just finished an early morning drive and had high hopes for some great coffee. After much research, I found one intriguing prospect housed in a trailer that resides at different spots through the city. The day of my visit, I found them outside the Public Health and Human Services, dishing out coffee to government employees and visitors alike.

Unlike most trailers, this one was set-up to allow patrons inside to order, mostly to shield them from the cold, Montana winters. As for coffee, I ordered up an espresso of Hold Fast's Meetinghouse Blend and a drip coffee of a single origin Ethiopian from Revel. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate nibs, blueberry, croissant, cream and a little romaine, proving smooth, bright delicious. The drip coffee also made for an excellent cup, with notes of crisp apple, raspberry, whipped cream, pound cake and a little walnut.

While my time with Montago was short, it proved to be extremely well worth it. The next time you are in Helena or the surrounding area, definitely find Montago via their social media and enjoy some of their delicious wares.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
