Denim Coffee

The older I get, the more I enjoy the journey versus the destination. That could largely result from the fact that my endpoints don't vary as much as they use to, and now detours have become the only concrete way I see new scenery, not to mention new coffee.

This affinity for detours is how I finally found myself in Carlisle, PA. For sometime I had been planning to stop by to visit Denim Coffee, a local coffeehouse and roaster that had attracted my my attention, and after a few failed efforts to make a reasonable pit stop, I just ended up tacking on an extra hour during one trip to Gettysburg. I rose early to accommodate the time and found myself at a peaceful coffeehouse situated near the town center shortly after breakfast. Inside, the shop itself has plenty of windows and seating, offering a perfect spot to meet up with a group.

As for coffee, I had an espresso of their Espresso Blend and a drip infusion of a single origin Nicaraguan. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of dark chocolate, a little pepper, caramel pretzel, cream and a touch of sarsaparilla, proving a tad dark but still tasty. The drip coffee fared a bit lighter, with toothsome notes of honey, apple, steamed milk, romaine, birch beer, hard pretzel and nougat in a medium/heavy body.

While my travel that day was longer than it needed to be, my stop at Denim made it well worth it. If you happen to be nearby or you're up for a detour around the Harrisburg area, definitely give Denim Coffee a go.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
