Grindstone Coffeeology

Subject: Grindstone Coffeeology

I have had my eye on the western border of West Virginia for some time, so when plans finally came together to visit the vicinity, I already had a small list of coffee destinations mapped out and ready to go.

One of my favorites from the trip not only had great coffee but also a really unique set-up. Grindstone Coffeeology is a cafe and roastery established in a cozy one-story building that has been extended beautifully into a shipping container, complete with roof patio. Behind it and to the side are a few outside seating spots as well as a house(!) that seems to serve mostly for storage and bathroom space.

As for the coffee the day of my visit, I had an espresso of their Espresso Blend and a drip coffee of a single origin Brazilian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, caramel, cream, rhubarb, grain and root beer, proving balanced and sweet. The drip coffee also made for a delicious infusion, with pleasant notes of wheat, apple, spring water, sweet milk and honeydew.

This was a coffeehouse I truly wish was closer to my house. The next time you're near Huntington, definitely give Grindstone Coffeeology a visit for some good coffee in a spectacular space.
