Little Woodfords

Portland has never been a place in which I get to stay long. In my many years of traveling, I have only managed a short visit here or a wave-from-the-highway visit there. But recently, I managed to make my longest visit yet (a full 12 hours!) and during that time where I was not sleeping (it was a layover) I was able to get in a coffee shop visit to a place called Little Woodfords.

Located right off Franklin Street, Little Woodfords sits in a one-story brick building covered in a soft pink hue. I visited while the inside was closed-off, but its cozy atmosphere was easily observable from the outside. Fortunately there was outside seating and the weather was still balmy in the city, so it all worked out.

As for coffee, they serve Vivid Coffee out of Vermont; I ordered up an espresso of their Sugar Shack and a drip of a single origin Colombian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, passion fruit, mozzarella, brioche and a little currant, proving sweet and bright. The drip also proved sumptuous, with cloying notes of honey, apple pie, birch beer, almond milk, romaine and a little green tea.

While my time was short at Little Woodfords, I could definitely see a return visit the next time I can squeeze in a trip to Portland. If you live nearby or are passing through, definitely give Little Woodfords a whirl.
