In my experience, most shops that make their own bagels usually don't have great coffee. Especially when wandering around the east coast, most places that specialize in bagels don't put the same effort into their coffee. But in Bellingham, I found the fabled unicorn of an operation that makes great bagels and offered a solid coffee experience.

Otherside Bagel, located on N State Street, is a long shop with lots of glass windows. Inside the place has plenty of seating within it's open and airy atmosphere.

As for coffee, they served up Proud Mary and the morning of my visit I had an espresso and drip coffee of the Humbler Blend. The espresso pulled short with brown crema, smacked of hot chocolate, lemonade, apple pie and corn chips, proving sweet and robust. The drip coffee also proved delightful with delightful notes of chocolate, nougat, fig, strawberry preserves, buttered bread and some baby bib lettuce.

After enjoying my beverages I grabbed a bagel sandwich (which was delicious) and headed out. If you happen to be in town, definitely make a stop at Otherside for great coffee and bagels.
