Gravel and Grind

Frederick is a town I have seen quite a few times these past few years and much like a lot of cities in the northeast, it has historic charm mixed with newer construction. But of all the sights and shops, one spot I really enjoyed in Frederick was it's bicycle + coffee shop, Gravel and Grind.

Situated in a large, stand-alone building with both indoor and outdoor seating, the shop was brimming to full on the day of my visit, with every possible seat spoken for (hence not many pictures of the seating). Bathed in late autumnal sunlight thanks to the large windows, the shop has a warm aesthetic that compliments its coffee and biking offerings.

As for coffee that day, I settled upon a Peruvian coffee from ChocoSombra for both my espresso and drip coffee (they also offer Brandywine Coffee Roasters as well). The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of lemon bar, caramel, peach, fig newton and root beer, proving syrupy sweet and nuanced. The filtered coffee also delivered a mouth party, with notes of pecan pie, apple juice, vanilla, stroopwafel and raisins.

Not having much time before I had to head out, I enjoyed my drinks by the windows and rode off into the sunset. If you happen to be in the area of Frederick, definitely stop by Gravel and Grind.
