Traveling for business often means random breaks perfect for coffee shop hunting. Equipped with a car during a recent conference in Phoenix, I had an hour to kill between sessions and I headed over to a new-to-me shop called GrindTime Coffee.

Situated in a strip mall, the shop boasts giant windows and a huge COFFEE sign. Inside, the shop is one of the only shops I've seen where dark grey is dominant, yet despite its unorthodox first impression, it grew on me the longer I stayed.

As for coffee, they roast their own. For my espresso I ordered a single origin Guatemalan and for the drip, an Ethiopian. The espresso, pulled short/medium with light brown crema, smacked of cream, chocolate, cherry, lemon zest, some romaine and pound cake, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also had me delighted, with fruity notes of strawberry candy, milk, blackberry, milk chocolate, cashew and spring mix.

After spending a brief respite with my drinks, my alarm went off to return to the conference, but I couldn't have been happier with my coffee break. If you happen to be in Gilbert or nearby, definitely check out GrindTime Coffee.
