Music and coffee are natural pals. For many folks the combo is an obvious pairing, especially for those who have lived with an open mic coffeehouse nearby. Thus, when I found a coffee shop involving the drummer of Fitz and the Tantrums in Missoula, I made sure to give it a stop when I next passed through town.
The shop closest to my route one sunny Friday was on Broadway Street in a standalone blue building with a skinny parking lot. Inside the shop was a gorgeous, lofted space with tons of natural light, beautiful furniture and a bar that would have looked at home in a saloon.
As for the coffee, I had an espresso of their Luigi blend and a drip coffee of their Airto blend. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of cherry, chocolate, mozzarella, lemon zest, croissant and a little peppercorn, proving smooth and balanced. The drip coffee also made for a good brew, with notes of dulce de leche, dark chocolate, fuji apple, corn and a little chard.
While this coffeehouse was not out of my league (get it?), it was a privilege to try out Drum on my way through Missoula. If you happen to be nearby or passing through, definitely check out one of Drum Coffee's locations.
