For gorgeous mountain majesty, no place in the USA compares to Glacier National Park. Few places bring such unique beauty in a single place and thanks to the ever-rising popularity, the area outside of Glacier improves every time I visit.
On a recent detour to Columbia Falls, the latest gem new to my eyes was the culinary excellence of Uptown Hearth. The shop consists of an in-house bakery and kitchen paired with a separate coffee entity called Azul Coffee Bar. While the pandemic has made the interior realities different (if not off-limits), when the inside has seating it is full of many tables and chairs to house their many eager patrons.
As for my coffee that day, I went with an espresso of Black Coffee's Vinyl blend and a pour over of a single origin Mexican coffee from Grim's Point. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of chocolate cake, cream, lime zest, hibiscus and a little sage, proving sugary-sweet and satisfying. The pour over also impressed, with bright notes of strawberry and gala apple supported by the smooth flavors of heavy cream, birch beer and a touch of seaweed.
All too quickly, I finished my drinks and was off to see some mountains. The next time you are in Columbia Falls, definitely give Uptown Hearth a visit, though if you do plan a detour, keep an eye on their social media as they are closed for the winter but should be back up in the new year.
