Living in the Philadelphia area, I grew up knowing little of what lay west beyond Lancaster. The times I did trounce across the state with family and friends, we usually took the turnpike and to my young mind, most of PA simply consisted of a handful of towns like Gettysburg, State College and Harrisburg.
But as I grew older and explored more places, I have come to greatly love the many different towns that dot the state of PA. One such town is the city of Lewistown, located right in the middle of the state somewhat near State College. Recently this past summer, I was able to visit while traveling west to a Pittsburgh area farmhouse and was able to finally visit a coffee establishment in Lewistown called East End Coffee Co.
Situated on E. Market Street in a spacious shop, I found East End a beautiful cafe. Full of chic decor, nice furniture and space that could fit numerous patrons in better times (I visited while the shop was limited to mostly to-go orders), I arrived to find the place abuzz with patrons coming and going.
As for coffee I ordered up an espresso of what I believe was their Townie Blend and a pourover of a single origin Tanzania. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of lime, cocoa, vanilla cookie, black tea, cream, blood orange and a bit of basil, proving bright and full. The pour over also fared deliciously, with vibrant notes of chocolate chip cookie, lemon, strawberry, whipped cream and some baby bib lettuce.Sadly, I had to be on my way and could not stick around the city for further exploration. But the next time I am in town, I definitely shall stop by East End Coffee Co. for some caffeinated refreshment.
