Cherry Coffee Roasters

The sun was hot and the streets were buzzing with activity as I made the most of my free time in New Orleans. Finding myself walking around Magazine Street, I wove in and out of the many businesses lining both sides, ranging from boutiques to fantastic eateries. Looking for a good cup of coffee, I set my sights on a location of Cherry Coffee Roasters, a local shop and roaster that had been gaining reputation for quality coffee. Since their second outpost proved convenient to my geography (their primary location is on Laurel), it made for a welcome treat to my morning adventure.

Housed in a beautiful grey brick building with giant windows, the shop possessed a sultry and sophisticated look. Full of dark colors, deep reds and rich woods, this shop had an intimate feeling while still feeling airy and bright with sun rays. Given the somewhat earlier hour, the place had not yet accumulated many regulars, so there were plenty of choices among the copious seating options.

As for coffee, they roast their own beans, and after a little deliberation I decided upon an espresso of a washed Ethiopian single origin and a drip of a natural-processed Ethiopian. The espresso, pulled medium with brown crema, smacked of lemon candy, chocolate, orange, hibiscus tea, ginger, milk and romaine lettuce, proving bright and sweet. The drip coffee also delivered a sweet brew, with notes of strawberry cupcakes, pomegranate, roses, whole milk, a little almond cookie and sweet tea.

While as of the date of this blog post publication, this location is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, I am hoping to revisit the place when it reopens. For now, if you seek some great coffee from Cherry Coffee Roasters, head over to their Laurel location or order some of their coffee via their website.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
