While I love a good bike ride, I have never been able to fully get into regular bicycling. Maybe it's the fickle NJ winters coupled with the lack of safe roads in my region, or maybe it's that I tend to drive a lot and when I get home I don't feel like navigating the byways any longer. But I tend to think that if I were to move to a warmer climate with a little more open road, I would lean closer to regular riding.

A recent visit to Arizona further proved my premonition, as the city of Scottsdale boasted a bicycle and coffee shop combo that makes the hobby even more enticing. Regroup Coffee + Bicycles sits in a modern stone building complete with pull-in parking. Inside, the shop offers a beautifully cozy cafe full of bikes, riding accessories and great coffee.

As for their coffee, they utilize Hotbox Roasters out of Colorado. The day of my visit, I ordered an espresso of their LXIX espresso blend and a cup of a single origin Guatemalan from their drip airpot. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, issued notes of citron, chocolate, papaya, romaine, orange zest and a little black tea, proving bright and delicious. The filtered coffee also shot off sumptuous fireworks, with explosions of black cherry, tomato, sugar cookie, orange, bib lettuce and a little mozzarella all within a light body.

Leaving satisfied with my coffee and a growing desire to get a new bike, I definitely found another reason to return to Scottsdale. The next time you're passing through town, whether it's on 1, 2 or 4 wheels, definitely check out Regroup for some solid coffee.
These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
