Moxxee Coffee

Everyone remembers their first interaction with West Virginia coffee (right?). For me, it was at a specialty coffee expo booth sampling some coffee for some forgotten reason, but realizing that the roaster was from the West Virginian capital, a place then completely uncharted on my map. It was that day I made the acquaintance of Moxxee Coffee and Charleston became a destination in my world.

Fast forward a few years and I finally managed to make it to Moxxee's shop on Morris Street. The day was warm and the copper roof cafe called to me with the sweet bleat of 2 goats fused at the hip. Inside the shop is creatively arrayed, with a central bar flanked by oodles of seating on either side.

As for coffee, I settled upon an espresso and a pourover of an Ethiopian Guji. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, raspberry, black pepper, black cherry soda and currants, proving deep and sweet. The pourover made for a lighter, brighter infusion with notes of blueberry, lime, snickerdoodle, ginger ale and Twix in a delicious, light-bodied brew.

All together, the wait was worth it to connect the dots on my Moxxee experiences. Sadly, I couldn't stay long and left shortly after polishing off my drinks. If in the Charleston area, definitely have the moxie to stop by Moxxee for some excellent coffee.
