Hammerhand Coffee

Some of the prettiest small towns reside in the midwest. In traversing Missouri for example, I have found gems such as Boonville and St. Charles to be delightful stops outside of their more populous (though equally delightful) neighbors. On my last visit to the state while on my way west from St. Louis, I was fortunate to find both a gorgeous locale and a great coffee establishment to add to my list.

Located right outside of Kansas City, Liberty is a picturesque suburb home to a beautiful downtown and also local coffee hero Hammerhand Coffee. I rolled in about mid-afternoon ardently seeking a cup of quality coffee, and since I had heard great things of Hammerhand from friends, I was even more elated to find it established in such a handsome, walkable downtown.

Inside their vaulted two-story shop, they boast a voluminous space filled with warm woods, white walls and splashes of blue. Throughout the giant space I found plenty of seating, including a nifty landing midway up their gigantic staircase as well as outside seating for warmer days.

As for coffee, they were just transitioning to roasting their own coffee when I visited, so there was mostly beans on hand from roasters like Counter Culture and Oddly Correct. I ordered an espresso of Apollo and a batch brew of a single origin Colombian from Oddly Correct. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of milk chocolate, lemon bars, raspberry, spring mix and light milk, proving toothsome, bright and sweet. The filtered coffee of Colombia also made for a delicious, hearty infusion, brimming with notes of honey, bran, wheat beer, apple, cocoa and a touch of shelled peanuts.

My only complaint was that I couldn't stay longer, as Hammerhand pounded out some great coffee. Whether nearby or looking ahead for a Missouri-an road trip, definitely earmark Liberty for its charming streets and Hammerhand Coffee.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!

I have been to this establishment and it is very cozy, quaint and delicious. I hope to be back in KC soon so I can return here! They buy some of the best low acidic coffee's for people that have a low acidic tolerance like me.
