Appalachian Coffee House

Subject: Appalachian Coffee House
Location: Mt Nebo, WV
WiFi?: yes
Rating: 5+ [see key]

Few mountainous places on the east coast rival the Rocky Mountains of the west, and one of the more breathtaking eastern vistas worth beholding lies in West Virginia's New River Gorge. Full of rugged beauty, interesting history and small town gems, the area should be a must-see for anyone even remotely close.

Right by the gorge in Mt Nebo there exists one small town gem called Appalachian Coffee House. Set up in a beautiful strip mall, this coffee shop is conveniently right off the highway only 20 minutes north of the New River Gorge Bridge. Walking inside, the first stop is an chic ordering area in the front which then flows into a different seating room arrayed a lot like the bottom floor of a house, specifically a kitchen and large living room complete with shelves of books and barrel high-top tables.

As for coffee, they serve up Mountaineer Roasting and Summit Coffee, of which I had an espresso of Mountaineer and a Ethiopia Hunda Oli from Summit. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, smacked of lemon, Twix, strawberry, mozzarella, watermelon candy and a little balsamic vinegar, proving bright and sweet. The drip infusion from Summit tasted of graham cracker, black pepper, cream, lime, pear, sugar and kale in a medium body, making for a good cup of coffee (albeit a little too dark for my taste).

All in all, I was blessed to find the Appalachian Coffee House on my route as there are few good coffee options for quite a few miles and even though the local natural sites are what draw people to the area, having good coffee definitely ups the ante. If you happen to be anywhere nearby the New River Gorge, definitely stop by the Appalachian Coffee House.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
