I once knew a somewhat unpleasant fella from Yardley. It wasn't that he tried to be off-putting, he just never had anything to contribute except woe and headaches. Sadly, due to the fact that he was the only constant association with Yardley, I subconsciously allowed my love for this river village of Pennsylvania to grow cold over the years. Thankfully news of a decent coffee roaster surfacing on the main drag sparked a return one afternoon to sip some coffee and give Yardley a new chance.
Finding Pretty Bird Coffee Roasters perched in a large blue house with a resplendent front porch, I walked inside to find a gorgeous, well-lit cafe buzzing with activity. The space has lots of nice accents, such as the colorful (and delicious) donuts and a pink neon plant wall, not to mention a fairly effective seating layout that maximizes the amount of sitting patrons.
As for coffee, Pretty Bird roasts their own and sticks mostly to blends. I ordered an espresso of their Dreamboat and a cup of their light "roost" (haha get it?) Wild Child from their drip brewer. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, tasted of chocolate, lime, vanilla, ginger cookie and black tea. The drip coffee also possessed excellent flavors, trumpeting out notes of strawberry, cream, wheat, caramel and plum.
To put it simply, thank God for new beginnings and Pretty Bird Coffee Roasters for bringing me back to Yardley. If you happen to be in town or near the Delaware River lands of central Jersey and Eastern PA, definitely give Pretty Bird a roost.
These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
