Seeking out good coffee has the distinct benefit of exposing one to parts of a city that might not have been on the regular tourist route. More often than not, a good coffeeshop is like a songbird, singing an enticing song to beckon curious travelers to check out a neighborhood and its offerings.

Paquebot was such a nuthatch for me one afternoon in Montreal. Hearing good things of their coffee, I decided to have lunch nearby at a burger joint called La Boulette and make my way over to Paquebot for a mid-day coffee. Fortunately lunch proved delicious, so to work off some of the calories, I took a nice stroll through some new-to-me residential lands and encountered numerous friendly tenants. Finally I found myself on the doorstep of Paquebot, with it's front wide open to embrace the warm afternoon.

The coffee during my visit came from Pilot Coffee Roasters out of Toronto, and of their available beans I went with an espresso of their Anthem and a pourover of a Kenyan. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, whistled of chocolate, rose tea, peach, pretzel, lemon, romaine and blue corn chips, proving zippy and delicious. The pourover kept the good times rolling, with a fruity, rich brew full of tangerine, pound cake, chocolate, watermelon candy and lemonade.

After finishing my beverages and spending a little time relaxing, I made my way out quite thankful for the great coffee from Paquebot and a new Montreal neighborhood in my repertoire. If you happen to be nearby Parc Molson, Villeray or Little Italy, definitely make a stop at Paquebot Cafe.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!

Even though I have only been here once, I love this cafe, the name itself translates to “ocean liner” in English. The ambiance, the music, the design, everything is perfect! The coffee is simply incomparable and the foam of the latte is tasty. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly just like the service. Have you by chance tried their nitro cold brew?

Best of travels!
