Cup and Spoon

A Chicago winter certainly demands plenty of cafes in which to warm up and enjoy a mug of well-brewed coffee. Fortunately on a recent trip to the windy city, I found such a place to sip and relax at a local haven called Cup and Spoon.

Outfitted in a spacious shop in Wicker Park, I easily found a parking spot on a side street and made my way over early one cold weekday morning. Inside, the shop contains an array of well-matched furniture, great lighting and gorgeous art I would certainly hang in my house. All around, Cup and Spoon boasts a lot of the aesthetic trappings I would want in a local coffee shop.

For their coffee, they use a variety of beans; that morning it was a variety of Metropolis and Metric beans. I ordered two different Metric coffees to start my morning off: an espresso of their Color Wheel and a V60 pourover of an Ethiopian Sidamo. The espresso, pulled short/medium with brown crema, wowed me with a spectrum of amazing flavors including lemon, ginger syrup, chocolate, rose petal, champagne and a touch of root beer, all in all making for a super sweet, bright infusion. The pourover also rocked my world, with massive fruit notes of pomegranate, passion fruit, cherry and orange as well as a bit of nougat and vanilla cake.

Quite satisfied with my drinks and delighted with the welcoming, Chicagoan nature of the baristas (Chicago definitely has the friendliest coffee people, hands down), I was sad to leave due to an impending business meeting. Thus, if you happen to be anywhere near the fine establishment of Cup and Spoon, absolutely make a detour there to have a sample of their wares.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!

I am proud to know( and soon be related to) the owner and her family. Cup and spoon is the darling of cafes. The coffee... Roasted and prepared perfectly by the baristas, can be coupled with delicious bake goods or, homemade, and damn good, sandwiches.
The welcoming atmosphere, delightful staff and excellent art make it a sweet place of refuge. ❤️

Cup and spoon is a super cute name! Really like that idea, if you're ever looking for some cute coffee mottos I saw some that might really be neat for your shop. I'll leave them here if that's okay: Coffee Slogans
