Coffee is a lot like a flower: both are beautiful, regularly coveted and add a necessary spice to life. And like a great coffeehouse, one does not easily discover a great florist on every street corner. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, they can find both tremendous coffee and eye-catching floral arrangements in a small boutique called 4121 Main.

Set in a 1920s storefront, the shop brims with a pleasing mixture of art, plants and coffee gear. The morning of my visit, the sun was pouring in the large front windows and the many patrons were abuzz like bees over a field of clover.

After taking a good visual census, I found my way to the counter to order some coffee. As a purveyor of Heart, 4121 boasts some pretty stellar coffee. I ordered a Guatemala for my espresso and a pourover of an Ethiopian. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, fired a cannonade of chocolate and raspberry, following with romaine, blood orange and birch beer in a beautiful and bright infusion. The pourover also proved delectable and sweet, with emphatic notes of blueberry, pound cake, escarole, hibiscus tea and vanilla frosting.

While I wasn't able to stay long, I definitely had plenty of time to drink in the atmosphere along with my delicious beverages. Whether you're a Pittsburgh-ian looking for a colorful spot to grab a coffee or a caffeinated purveyor of floral arrangements, definitely check out 4121 Main.

These wonderful folks made this visit possible in part. Make sure to check them out!
