These days there seems to be more and more coffee shops opening, but not a lot of good ones. A lot of shops are quick to open heavy on aesthetics yet low on the quality of their coffee. Fortunately, there's still great shops to find, as I some time ago found the delightful oasis of Camellia.
Situated in downtown Lansdowne, Camellia is located in a cozy retail space with large front window displays. Inside, the shop has a cheery environment, with seating at the front of the shop and along the large coffee bar.
As for coffee they serve Nilaa Coffee, both their regular coffees and their Quartz Coffee variety. The day of a recent visit, I had an espresso of their Shwe Taun Blend and a drip of the Camellia Blend. The espresso, pulled short with brown crema, smacked of chocolate, lemon, orange, caramel cookie, cocoa nibs and mineral water, proving sweet and bright. The drip coffee also proved delicious, with luscious notes of buttery biscuit, caramel apple, pear and strawberry cream.
While it may be tough to find a good coffee spot, it's comforting to know quality shops still exist. The next time you are in the Lansdowne area, make sure to check out Camellia Coffee House.
